Sad to hear that a A-Cho in Kyoto is closing its doors next month. Feeling fortunate I had the chance to visit and drop some ¥100 not that long ago. I’ll remember it as the place I got to try Castle of Shinagami III and DDP SDOJ Exa Arcadia.

Doing some quick reading it seems like this is a real turning of the tide, a key historical location lost, especially for the fighting game community.

I can’t also help but to find it an interesting view of the shifting fabric of the scene. Increasingly moving away from a physical locality, but still existent in a more ambient if ephemeral way. I’m sure there are other who have talked about this more and there are definitely people documenting the last remaining examples - an interesting space to potentially do some more reading.

Regardless, imagining what it might’ve been like in its golden era, it definitely gives you a sense of nostalgia for a place you never got to be.
